About the Artisan

I am a self taught artisan born of Appalachian descent, living in the hills of Southern Ohio with my husband of 40 years.  From childhood to the present I have crafted with things of nature.  After years of working outside the home and driving thousands of miles to do so, I am now living my life long dream.  I am in my rural home creating things from nature and so very much appreciative of it all.
In the early 90's I was taken by the beauty of the hard shell gourd.  I messed around with gourds some but in the last seven years it has become a passion and I've had one in my hands ever since.  Using dozens of techniques and my artistic abilities with the unique shapes and textures of the gourd, my creations are a union of art and nature.

I have just become a member of the Appalachian Artisans Guild.  The AAG was established in 1995 as a group of artisans committed to quality work and to preservation of the Appalachian culture.  The AAG promotes and markets arts and crafts within our own communities, throughout Southern Ohio, and beyond.  It is their purpose as artists and craftspeople to not only create traditional work but to preserve and educate about the Appalachian culture and heritage and it's contribution to our world.   In the Spring they host a Cabin Fever Arts Festival at the Appalachian Gateway Center in Fincastle, Ohio.

With the support of my husband Al, our daughter Feather and her boyfriend Chip, I am able to attend many festivals throughout the year.  Sometimes we all go and sometimes Al stays home and has a meal prepared for us on our return.  As a family we cherish our time together.  Plus all the great folks we meet at festivals is a bonus.
